The Rules of Composition
1. Impact: This picture was taken while driving through a tunnel with a slow shutter speed.
|
ISO: 100, Aperture: 13.0, Shutter Speed: 2.5" |
2. Cropping: When taking this picture, I was really concentrating on what the image below shows. However, before cropping it, there were columns running down to the floor and other mosaic work on the left and right because of the angle at which I was taking the image.

ISO: 1600, Aperture: 5.6, Shutter Speed: 1/60 | | |
|
3. Biggest, Boldest, Most Favorably Placed: When home and looking out into my back yard, my eyes always go directly to our green summer table.
|
ISO: 200, Aperture: 6.3, Shutter Speed: 1/320 |
4. K.I.S.S.: I am very proud to be Italian, and thus, the Italian Crest must stand out! What better way than to use K.I.S.S.!
|
ISO: 200, Aperture: 9.0, Shutter Speed: 1/60 |
5. Rules of Thirds: This is another picture I took in my back yard. Horizontally, the 1/3 is the roof, 1/3 is the layer with the rooster, and the last 1/3 is the sky. Vertically, 1/3 is the tree branches on the right, 1/3 the layer with the rooster, and the last 1/3 the smaller tree branch and lots of sky.
|
ISO: 200, Aperture: 5.0, Shutter Speed: 1/2500 |
6. Leading Lines: I showed this as one of my favorite pictures at the beginning of the semester, but I did not know then that it has great "Leading Lines"
|
ISO: 200, Aperture: 7.1, Shutter Speed: 1/1600 |
7. Balance: This photo is symmetrically balanced.
8. Use of Framing: When taking this picture, I used the branches to frame the center piece, the flower. I did not want a very sharp/hard frame though, so I took the picture at a low to medium aperture to try and blur them out.
|
ISO: 200, Aperture: 9.0, Shutter Speed: 1/320 |

9. Avoid Merges: When first taking a picture of this cake, other objects (glasses, plates, ext.) were in the image. I moved them, but then people were still in the background. So, instead of moving my surroundings I moved the angle of my camera and took the shot from above.
|
ISO: 800, Aperture: 5.0, Shutter Speed: 1/50 |

10. Room for Logical Movement: My cousin wanted to take some pictures to practice her head shots appointment, so we fooled around with head shot type photos. I wanted to be sure Ali had enough room to move around and change her position without having to change where I had my camera.

ISO: 200, Aperture: 5.6, Shutter Speed 1/125 |
